‘Dear Evan Hansen’ and ‘Anastasia’ are returning to Chicago later this year

The fan-favorite musicals “Dear Evan Hansen” and ”Anastasia” are returning to Chicago in 2022, according to an announcement Tuesday by downtown theater owner Broadway in Chicago. Tickets are available at a later date.

“Dear Evan Hansen,” with book by Steven Levenson, a score by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul and direction by Michael Greif, is the story of a high schooler with social anxiety who finds himself swept up in events after the death of a classmate. A Tony Award winner for best musical, its big numbers include “Waving Through a Window” and “You Will Be Found.” Dec. 6-31 at the Nederlander Theatre, 24 W. Anastasia,” with book by Terrence McNally, score by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens, and directed by Sarah Hartman based on original direction by Darko Tresnjak, is the story of Anya and set in the twilight of the Russian Empire and Paris in the 1920s. Meanwhile, next up for Broadway in Chicago are “Jersey Boys” at the Cadillac Palace May 3-8; the tour of the recent Broadway production of “To Kill A Mockingbird” at the Nederlander May 17-19; “Fiddler on the Roof” at Cadillac Palace May 17-22; “Ain’t Too Proud — The Life and Times of The Temptations” at Cadillac Palace May 24 to June 5; and “My Fair Lady” at the Cadillac Palace June 28 to July 10. Also “Jesus Christ Superstar” in July, “The Devil Wears Prada” for a monthlong summer run at the Nederlander, “Wicked” for more than two months in the fall and “The Lion King” over the holidays at Cadillac Palace Theatre.
