Dearborn Heights Police chase ends with 5 arrested, 2 hospitalized

A police chase led Dearborn Heights Police officers into Dearborn on Monday afternoon, ending with a crash, multiple arrests and weapons recovered from the scene. Officers pursued a stolen vehicle as suspects fled and crashed into other vehicles in Dearborn, causing multiple injuries.

The incident began when Dearborn Heights Police officers attempted to stop a stolen vehicle on eastbound Michigan Avenue and Outer Drive, but the driver fled the scene, police said. The driver then tried to turn north onto Oakwood Boulevard, hitting two other motorists in Dearborn.

The two motorists hit by the stolen vehicle sustained non-life-threatening injuries from the crash. Police reported two individuals taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

"Like many communities, we are experiencing a spike in motor vehicle thefts and our residents are understandably frustrated," said Police Chief Jerrod Hart. "The thefts negatively impact our residents' quality of life and ability to earn a living."

Police recovered a loaded 9mm Smith & Weston pistol with an extended magazine and a Taser from the stolen vehicle.

Police arrested five suspects inside the stolen vehicle, 15- to 18-year-old residents of Michigan and North Dakota.

Dearborn Heights Police are conducting an ongoing investigation into the incident.
