Death of 70-year-old man beaten in Brooklyn last year deemed a homicide

The death of a 70-year-old man who clung to life for eight months after being attacked on a Brooklyn street has been deemed a homicide, police said Saturday.

Mario Ocampo was critically injured after he was punched in the face on Riverdale Ave. and Rockaway Ave. in Brownsville on at 4:30 p.m. on July 12, 2021.

The senior citizen reeled back and fell after being punched, cracking his head on the pavement and suffering a massive head injury, cops said.

First responders found Ocampo on the ground suffering from face and head injuries, “indicative of being sustained from a punch and subsequent fall,” cops said.

He was rushed to Brookdale University Hospital, where he remained in critical condition until he died on March 5, cops said.

His death was declared a homicide following a brief investigation.

No arrests have been made.
