Death after Halloween argument ruled a homicide

LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Mark Belange's death Saturday was a homicide, based on preliminary autopsy results, Tippecanoe County Coroner Carrie Costello said on Tuesday.

Homicide means that the actions of another person caused the death, Costello said.

Belange's cause of death was from blunt traumatic injuries, Costello said of the preliminary autopsy findings.

Belange, 73, of the 500 block of Bellingham Avenue, got into an argument about 8:55 p.m. Halloween night. The other person involved in the argument shoved Belange, who fell to the ground, according to police.

Belange suffered head injuries in the fall and was hospitalized. according to police and the coroner's office.

He died Saturday, Costello said.

Police indicated Monday that the initial report stated there were no punches and kicks thrown during the argument.
