Death in Paradise is celebrating a huge milestone this year with the release of its forthcoming season, which begins with the show's 100th episode.

The BBC has revealed details about what viewers can expect from the historic episode of the Caribbean crime drama, and there will be a lot of surprises in store as one of police's own is put in the line of fire. Here is everything that you need to know.

When is Death in Paradise's 100th episode airing on TV?

Death in Paradise returns to BBC One and BBC iPlayer from Sunday, 4 February, and the series will air on a weekly basis thereafter.

Fans will not have to wait long to enjoy the 100th episode as it is how the new season begins, setting the stage for the rest of the series. There will be eight episodes in total for the crime drama.

What is the plot for the 100th episode of Death in Paradise?

Death in Paradise sees Commissioner Selwyn Patterson (Don Warrington) be left fighting for his life when he is shot by a mystery assailant during an event meant to celebrate his fifty years in the police service. The race to catch the person who shot Selwyn is tense, with the team and people on the island alike left in despair over whether he will survive his injuries or not.

With DI Neville Parker (Ralf Little) leading the police, he sets out to do everything they can to solve the crime before it's too late. Whilst characters like DS Naomi Thomas (Shantol Jackson) and Marlon Pryce (Tahj Miles) consider the implications of the kiss they shared in the Christmas special, and Trainee Officer Darlene Curtis (Ginny Holder) continues her training to join the force.

The 13th season will go on to follow a number of interesting plot points from Marlon confronting his future, Naomi letting loose on a double date with Darlene, and Catherine finding herself embroiled in a murder case when an old friend becomes a suspect. Neville will also face his biggest decision yet, all whilst the team contend with a deadly game of bingo, a poisoning at a cookery competition, and a death during a blackout.

Who stars in Death in Paradise's 100th episode?

Death in Paradise's lead cast —Little, Warrington, Jackson, Holder, and Miles— will return, whilst Élizabeth Bourgine will also be back as Catherine Bordey in the new series.

The 100th episode will also feature an array of guest stars, including Sean Maguire who reprises his role as Marlon Collins, after last playing the role in 2011. This makes him the first guest to return for another episode. Whilst Leon Herbert, Cathy Tyson and Mensah Bediako will also star.

Other guest stars in season 13 include Hayley Mills, Ellie Haddington, Kate Robbins, Pearce Quigley, Ronni Ancona, Richard Fleeshman, Juliet Cowan, Shvorne Marks, Michael Fenton Stevens, and Ben Wiggins. Genesis Lynea will also return as Selwyn’s daughter Andrina.

Guy Henry, Kevin Garry, Taj Atwal, Emma Naomi, Gabrielle Glaister, Elise Chappell, Ali Ariaie, Eve Posonby, Emma Sidi, Calvin Demba, Rachel Adedeji, and Richard Lintern are also amongst the guest cast.

Death in Paradise returns on Sunday, 4 February at 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
