Homicide detectives and a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools representative were also observed on scene.

CMS later confirmed the following message had been sent from the principal of East Mecklenburg High School to students and families.

Good morning East Meck Eagles. This is Rick Parker, Principal of East Mecklenburg High School, with an important update to inform you that an individual took his life on our campus early today. This young man was not a current student at East Meck only attending the school in 2016 as a freshman. Law enforcement is investigating.

This loss of life, like any loss of life in our community, is tragic. Our thoughts are with this young man’s family as they grieve.

If your child is having a difficult time processing this incident and needs support, counselors will be available when we return to campus on Tuesday. Thank you for your continued support of East Meck.
