Death at Loco Coco's Tacos in Kittery: Construction worker falls

KITTERY, Maine — Police are investigating an accidental death at Loco Coco’s Tacos, stating a man fell while doing construction work.

Kittery Police Chief Robert Richter said his department received a call at approximately 8:45 a.m. Monday reporting the fall at the 36 Walker St. eatery. The man was a contractor working on a ladder inside the restaurant when he fell, according to Richter. He was 66 years old and a Durham, New Hampshire, resident.

The man was working on an air conditioning duct, taping it to prevent condensation from dripping onto the floor and tables, according to Jesse Scardina, who works at the restaurant and whose sister is the owner. Richter said the fall was witnessed by a Loco Coco's employee.

The man was treated by first responders and brought to Portsmouth Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased, Richter said. His name was not immediately released to allow authorities time to notify his family.

The death is being investigated by the Kittery Police Department, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the New Hampshire medical examiner's office. The latter office is involved because the man was pronounced dead in New Hampshire. Maine State Police also responded.
