Death in Paradise star Ben Miller will front new ITV crime drama Professor T

Former Death in Paradise star Ben Miller has landed the lead role in a new crime drama from ITV.

Miller will star in the six-parter Professor T which is based on the hit Belgian series of the same name.

He will play genius OCD criminologist, Professor Jasper Tempest, while Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire's Frances de la Tour will play his colourful but overbearing mother, Adelaide.

The cast also includes rising stage actress Emma Naomi who will play Detective Inspector Lisa Donckers while fellow rising star Barney White has been cast as her police sidekick Dan Winters.

The series will be helmed by leading Belgian director, Indra Siera, and will be filmed in Belgium and Cambridge in the summer.

Speaking about the series, CEO of production company Eagle Eye Drama, Walter Iuzzolino said: “Professor T is my all-time favourite detective – a tortured genius wrestling with a mystery childhood trauma.

"It's a unique crime series with a core of wonderful warm characters at its heart and I am delighted to be working with our hand-picked European production team to make this for ITV and international audiences."

Meanwhile Miller's former show Death in Paradise has just finished airing it's ninth series, with the tenth already commissioned.

And despite fans' fears that the show's newest star Ralf Little would be exiting it was confirmed before the series nine finale that Ralf will be sticking around for the tenth season.

Death In Paradise airs on BBC One. The complete series is available to pre-order on DVD now.
