Death in Paradise has just kicked off its 11th series, and it sounds as if upcoming episodes are going to be filled with romance.

Élizabeth Bourgine, who plays Mayor Catherine Bordey, hinted that the resident Cupid will be offering advice to lots of characters who are looking for love.

The popular comedy crime series sees Detective Inspector Neville Parker (Ralf Little) and his team trying to solve crimes in the sun-soaked Caribbean – and also falling in love, so it seems.

"She will do her best [advising DI Neville Parker] but she can't be magical," she told Radio Times, "And she will try to do her best with Florence [Joséphine Jobert], too. And with someone else – I can't tell about that. But love affairs [and] sentimental things will be very important [in this season]."

She then hinted with a laugh that she "really can't tell you" if Commissioner Selwyn Patterson (Don Warrington) is the "someone else" that has a romance.

Whether it is or isn't, Warrington did admit that we'll be learning a lot more about his enigmatic character this season but kept the details of what is going to happen close to his chest.

“I think we will learn a bit more about Selwyn," he said. "I think it's good. I think the more you learn about a character, the more enigmatic they actually become. Yeah, I think we learn a bit more."

However, there has been one heartbreak already that happened in the series premiere, upsetting fans.

As fans of the sun-soaked murder mystery are aware, Neville has deep feelings for Florence, which he let slip after a few drinks, but she made it very clear that she is just interested in being friends.

Death in Paradise airs on Fridays at 9pm on BBC One.
