Staten Island toddler’s death was a homicide, NYPD says; cause of death not disclosed

A 2-year-old Staten Island toddler’s death last May was a homicide, police said Saturday.

Ermias Taylor-Santiago was found unconscious by his father inside a home on Deidre Court in Park Hill at about 11:30 a.m. on May 20, cops said.

Ermias was rushed to Staten Island University North Hospital, but he couldn’t be saved.

“We love you so much baby boy,” Ermias’ aunt Trini wrote on an online tribute announcing the child’s death. “We’ll be looking for you in every rainbow we see.”

An autopsy later revealed that the tot’s death was a homicide, although it was not immediately disclosed how he died.

An email to the city’s Medical Examiner’s office was not immediately returned.

Ermias was born premature on Halloween 2019 and was admitted to Richmond University Medical Center’s neonatal intensive care unit suffering from respiratory distress, a GoFundMe page seeking donations for medical expenses indicated.

After multiple surgeries, he was released from the hospital in May 2020.

He lived about six blocks away from where he was found unconscious, cops said.

No arrests have been made.
