In Kyiv, the number of dead as a result of the Russian attack has increased to 28 people

The death toll in Kyiv as a result of a missile attack on Dec. 29, has risen, with 28 people now confirmed to have died, Kyiv authorities said on the morning of Jan. 1.

The bodies of those killed in the missile strike are still being recovered, reported the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, Serhiy Popko.

Rescuers earlier found four bodies in rubble. A total of 30 people have been declared dead or missing following the Russian attack. The search and rescue operation continues.

A Day of Mourning was officially declared in Kyiv on Jan. 1.

This is the largest number of civilian casualties as a result of a single attack in Kyiv since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion.

Russia attacked Ukraine with a large number of kamikaze drones in the evening of Dec. 28, and then with missiles in the early hours of Dec. 29.

During the attack, residential buildings were damaged in the Shevchenkivskyi district of Kyiv, and a fire broke out in garages, a business center, and warehouses. Eight people were rescued from the rubble.

As of Jan. 1, 28 people have been confirmed dead and their bodies have been recovered from the rubble.

During the massive Russian attack, air defense forces shot down 87 cruise missiles and 27 Shahed drones, Ukrainian Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief Valerii Zaluzhnyi said.
