Debra Messing Says 'No One' Has Asked Her Out — and Wants Ellen DeGeneres to Set Her Up

Debra Messing isn’t not looking for love — she’s just not noticing many contenders for her heart at the moment.

Stopping by for a chat with Ellen DeGeneres on her daytime talk show Thursday, the Will & Grace star, 50, reveals that she hadn’t kept to her 2018 New Year’s resolution to date more — but it wasn’t for lack of receptiveness on her part.

“I have been open,” Messing says, with a pause that leads the audience to erupt into laughter and DeGeneres, 60, to jokingly accuse them of having dirty minds.

“No one has asked me on a date. Not one — zero,” the actress continues.

“Where are you going?” DeGeneres asks her guest.

“No one, ’cause no one’s asking me anywhere!” jokes Messing, who split from husband Daniel Zelman in 2011 after 10 years of marriage and former Smash costar Will Chase in 2014 following a two-and-a-half-year relationship.

DeGeneres suggests that Messing turn her girls’ nights into outings with single friends instead of those in relationships, to help her meet potential suitors. The only problem? She doesn’t have single friends.

“Are you good at setting people up?” she asks the host, who has been married to wife Portia de Rossi for more than 10 years.

“I’m so good at setting people up — let me know what [you’re] looking for. I have set so many people up,” DeGeneres replies enthusiastically.

“Really smart, really funny, cares about the world,” Messing says of the traits she desires in a romantic partner.

“Hmm,” DeGeneres jokes in reply, with a knowing look at the camera.

“That third one is really tricky,” says Messing, adding that she’d “rather not” date someone in show business but is “open” to that possibility, as well as to seeing someone within 10 years of her age in either direction.

Of her 14-year-old son Roman Walker, Messing admits he has been “begging” her “to go on a date” with someone.

“I want to give him the gift of me going on a date, at this point,” she jokes.
