Debris Strewn on Beach as South Africa Flooding Prompts Disaster Declaration

The South African government declared a provincial disaster in the flooded region of KwaZulu-Natal on Thursday, April 14, with local news outlets reporting that over 300 people have died in historic torrential rains.

Eyewitness News said cleanup operations were under way on Thursday morning. The South African Weather Service forecast that rain would continue through the weekend.

This video showing washed-up debris, including a tank, on North Beach in Durban was recorded by Lehlohonolo Mokhohlouloane on Thursday afternoon.
