DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — A Decatur woman is not facing any prison time after she pleaded guilty to allowing her dog to starve.

Court records show 34-year-old Twyla Kitsos pleaded guilty in Macon County court on Tuesday to aggravated cruelty to animals, a class 4 felony. The judge sentenced her to a year of probation.

As a part of her plea deal, Kitsos is not allowed to own any pet during the term of her probation.

Kitsos was arrested in March of 2023 following multiple tips from the public. Two months earlier, a dog was found dead in a cage left on the side of a road near Forsyth, and the tips pointed to Kitsos as being the dog’s owner.

Another person, 58-year-old Dewey Ford, also was arrested and charged for his role in the case. Court records indicate that he pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice and was sentenced to two years of probation.
