Deceased driver in weekend I-70 crash in Washington County identified as Hedgesville woman

HALFWAY — A Hedgesville, W.Va., woman was pronounced dead Saturday morning at the scene after the Lexus she was driving went off Interstate 70, through the median and overturned, according to Maryland State Police.

The driver and sole occupant of the Lexus was identified as Nestorine Tchamewe Boh-Kangoum, 57, according to a state police news release.

State troopers responded shortly after 3:30 a.m. Saturday to westbound I-70 in the area of the 27 mile marker to investigate a single-vehicle collision, the release states.

That mile marker is between the Downsville Pike (Md. 632) exit and the Interstate 81 interchange in the Halfway area.

The state police determined the Lexus was heading west on the interstate when it left the road, went through the median, overturned, stopped on the eastbound shoulder and caught fire, the release states.

The investigation is ongoing and includes a state fire marshal conducting a fire investigation, the release states. State police conducted an advanced collision reconstruction.

The medical examiner also was notified of the death, the release states.

The interstate was closed briefly to put out the fire, the release states.

CHART, the Maryland Department of Transportation's Coordinated Highways Action Response Team, also was notified about the crash and responded to help with the scene.
