Be it toys, jackets, funds or food, different organizations are hosting donation drives to help Stocktonians around the city.

Sierra Vista holiday donations and event

Sierra Vista’s in the holiday spirit all month long with two donation drives at the same time and a holiday celebration.

The Sierra Vista Resident Council is accepting toy donations for kids all ages to gift this Christmas season to children in the Sierra Vista neighborhood. Donations for this season will be received until Dec. 10. Those interested in helping children in a specific family with gifts and/or Santa lists can contact the Georgia Brownlee, the council’s president, for further details at (209) 430-3505.

Additionally, the council is working in partnership with Aspire APEX school to gather blankets, jackets, socks and gloves for homeless individuals in Stockton. Students and neighbors will be meeting on Dec. 11 at 10 a.m. to gather donations to then head out and deliver them about 10:30 a.m. To deliver donations prior to Dec. 11, those interested can also contact Brownlee.

To celebrate the season, the council is also hosting their holiday party from 2 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 16, at the Sierra Vista community gym across from the council’s offices, right by the Sierra Vista Housing Authority Block on 2436 Belleview Ave. Special guests — such as Santa Claus — are scheduled to make an appearance

American Veterans’ donations for the homeless

American Veterans Post No. 1947 is collecting food, sleeping bags, and hygiene products to give out to homeless community members on Sunday, Dec. 19.

“Not everyone will have a safe and warm Holiday season. Some will also be hungry,” said post Commander Michael L. Emerson. “Our Post is planning on going to several homeless encampments in Stockton, … So the homeless can have a better holiday season.”

If you have things you’d like to give, you can coordinate with Emerson by contacting him via email at mlemerson@aol.com and/or keep an eye out for details on Post No. 1947’s Facebook page at bit.ly/3pv62dB.
