Deep East Texas organization helps veterans with first Stand Down event
DIBOLL, Texas (KETK) – When it comes to the men and women who fought for our country, like Andrew Morgan, an Army Veteran, he said leaving the military is an exciting moment, but for some that’s when many challenges begin.

“I’m in need of a job right now,” said Morgan.
He finished his service in 2020 after more than 4 years in the army. He has recently fallen on hard times and found out about Friday’s veteran stand down happening in Diboll.
A stand down is an event for homeless veterans to get supplies and services including VA benefits and health care screenings.
“So, I decided to come and check it out and see what all they had to offer, and there’s a lot of good stuff,” said Morgan.
Morgan said it helps with a lot of questions and learning about the services available to him.

“When I was getting out, it was really confusing for the whole VA situation because COVID was going on and I didn’t really get an opportunity to speak to anybody about the VA,” said Morgan.
Endeavors, a support service for veteran families, put on the event for the first time after seeing the need for answers from our nation’s heroes like Morgan.
“It’s not so much an immediate gratification or a loss of sadness, but what they do realize is somebody is here to help them, somebody sees them and recognizes them,” said Cullen Burch, sight supervisor for Endeavors in Diboll.
Morgan said after speaking to the various organizations who attended, he now feels like he is headed in the right direction.

“Pretty hopeful for a future, it’s looking pretty bleak there before coming here today, but I’ve got a lot of hope now,” said Morgan.
“Endeavors said they hope to hold similar events like today’s for years to come.
