Deep shots don't fall for Ducks as they drop home game to Colorado

Oregon's offensive struggles continued Friday night as the Ducks found themselves in a deficit they couldn’t shoot themselves out of.

The result was a 63-53 loss to Colorado in a Pac-12 women’s basketball game at Matthew Knight Arena — the fourth loss in five games for the Ducks.

“That was a tough one to watch,” Oregon coach Kelly Graves said.

Oregon (14-8, 5-6 Pac-12) went 0-for-16 from 3-point range and has now made just 8-of–52  3-point attempts in its last three games.

It was their first game without making a 3-pointer since going 0-for-16 against California on Feb. 18 of last season.

“You gotta do a little bit better than that, I think,” Graves said. “I think we rushed a couple tonight. But it’s like anything, you start pressing when you get a shot, get a look. It’s human nature to say I’m gonna be the one to get this one going, but nobody was the one to get that going.”

Overall, the Ducks shot 36% from the field (20-of-55) one game after making 20-of-80 attempts in a loss to Stanford last Sunday.

Endyia Rogers scored 15 on 6-of-10 shooting, Grace VanSlooten also made 5-of-9 for 15 points and Taylor Hosendove had a solid game off the bench with 10 points and seven rebounds.

But it was a rough night on offense for normally reliable guards Te-Hina Paopao (1-for-9), Chance Gray (1-for-9) and Taya Hanson (1-for-6), who combined for nine points.

“I think the last couple games we’ve defended well enough to win basketball games,” Graves said. “You’re just not gonna beat good teams in the Pac-12 with those kind of shooting percentages.”

Even with their shooting woes, the Ducks trailed just 32-25 at halftime and had gotten to with a basket — 39-37 — by the end of the third quarter.

But Colorado (17-5, 7-3) opened the fourth quarter on a 10-1 run to go up 49-38 with 7:08 to play and Oregon spent the rest of the game chasing the lead.

Aaronette Vonleh, a sophomore center from West Linn, led the Buffaloes with 22 points and eight rebounds.

“We’re just fighting some consistency issues, and confidence issues,” Graves said. “Hopefully we find them pretty soon here.”
