Deer fly through Utah's skies for annual health checks

STORY: Utah's airlift program uses helicopters to relocate around 1,200 deer for annual health checks and to fit them with GPS monitors.

The deer are assessed for indicators such as the level of protective body fat built up over the summer months, and are then released back into the wild.

The airlift is one of several programs aimed at helping the native mule deer cope with encroaching urbanization, disease, predators, wildfires and severe weather.
