Deerfield Beach standout linebacker Daterius Lee is staying in-state.
Lee committed to Florida A&M on Tuesday night, announcing his decision at the Bucks’ group commitment ceremony at Duffy’s Sports Grill in Deerfield Beach.
“It feels great right now,” Lee said. “It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. It was amazing.”
Rivals ranks Lee as a three-star prospect. He is listed at 6-feet tall and 215 pounds.
Lee chose the Rattlers over offers from Division I FBS schools like Auburn, Kentucky, Louisville and more. He said getting a chance to play for a historically Black university was important to him.
“It’s a way for me to connect to my roots, honestly,” Lee said.
“Just being able to show that you can do it from an HBCU, too. It doesn’t have to be a [predominantly white institution]. It can be anywhere. It was very important to me. I just want to be able to show young kids out here, growing up, that you don’t have to go to a big Power 5 school to be important or be successful.”
