Jaret Wright pleads guilty to charges of gross sexual imposition and possessing child pornography at the Hamilton County Courthouse in Cincinnati on Wednesday, May 25, 2022.

Hello – it's Kevin Grasha writing. I cover courts for The Enquirer. In June 2022, I was at the sentencing for Jaret Wright, who pleaded guilty in Hamilton County to sex crimes after he lived in a teen girl’s bedroom for three weeks – without the girl’s mother or two siblings knowing.

The first stage of Wright’s sentence was for him to complete sex offender treatment at a “secure,” locked facility.

But after the 22-year-old was arrested nearly a year later in Virginia with a missing girl from Pennsylvania, I discovered that he never went to a secure facility. Instead, Wright was sent to a halfway house that was not locked down. And in October 2022, he just walked away.

“I knew it was a matter of time before he did this again," his biological mother said. "He thinks he is untouchable.”

How and why did this happen? Here’s what I learned.
