Defending champ Teddy Snyder, other top seeds advance to Flight 1 semifinals in BCIAA boys tennis

Apr. 21—The top four seeds advanced to the semifinals in the BCIAA boys tennis flight tournament Friday at Muhlenberg.

In the Flight 1 Class 3A bracket, top-seeded and defending champ Teddy Snyder of Exeter and second-seeded Zach Schrader of Reading High, the 2021 champ, made it through. In the Class 2A part of the Flight 1 draw, top-seeded Dylan Bonds of Twin Valley and second-seeded Armaan Malik of Conrad Weiser advanced.

In crossover semifinals Saturday at Muhlenberg, Snyder will face Malik and Bonds will take on Schrader.

Play begins at 9 a.m.

Snyder beat Muhlenberg's Angel Peralta 6-0, 6-0 and Wilson's Ben Winkler 6-0, 6-4 on Friday. Schrader defeated Wilson's Phil Bornais 6-0, 6-1 and Daniel Boone's Sam Shank 6-2, 6-2. Shank was seeded third and Winkler fourth in Class 3A.

In Class 2A, Bonds beat Antietam's Dominic Perch 6-0, 6-0 and Conrad Weiser's Jio Garcia 6-2, 6-1. Malik defeated Berks Catholic's Alex Avram 6-0, 6-0 and Brandywine Heights' Nate Burger 6-2, 6-1. Burger was seeded third in Class 2A. Fourth-seeded Truman Peters of Wyomissing lost to Garcia 7-6 (5), 5-7, 6-2 in his opening match, one that lasted close to three hours.

Advancing to the Flight 2 semifinals were Reading High's Joel Rodriguez, Conrad Weiser's Colin Clabaugh, Berks Catholic's Jack Krajsa and Daniel Boone's Evan Miller.

Reaching the Flight 3 semifinals were Conrad Weiser's Eric Yazemboski, Exeter's Donghu Kim, Daniel Boone's Owen Blume and Wyomissing's Noah Gibney.

In Flight 4, Wyomissing's Max Herr, Conrad Weiser's Reed Kopcik, Exeter's Casimir Miravich and Wilson's Gavin Siravo advanced to the semis.

Making the semifinals in Flight 5 were Wilson's Jason Kaufmann, Wyomissing's Kyren McCabe, Hamburg's Tavian Perry and Kutztown's Grayson Ebner.

The singles finals are Monday at 4 p.m. at Muhlenberg.

Doubles did not reach the semifinals.
