Defensive lineman Charles Omenihu hints at wanting new contract from the Chiefs

The Chiefs didn’t make a big splash during NFL free-agency a year ago, but five of the players they signed made key contributions for the Super Bowl champions.

That included defensive end Charles Omenihu, although he missed the first six games of the season following a suspension for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy.

Despite missing much of the season, Omenihu was third on the Chiefs with seven sacks and fourth in quarterback hits (11). He also forced two fumbles.

Unfortunately for Omenihu, he was injured (torn ACL) in the Chiefs’ 17-10 win over the Ravens in the AFC Championship Game and missed Super Bowl LVIII.

Omenihu, who signed a two-year, $16 million contract with the Chiefs last March, wrote Saturday on X (formerly Twitter) that he was feeling underappreciated. He hinted at wanting a new contract.

“Want to feel appreciated,” Omenihu wrote.

He later added: “Didn’t have a full season and put up numbers. Does that go unnoticed? Might have to do it again to get what I want at the end.”

Both posts generated hundreds of comments from Chiefs fans, including some Omenihu didn’t appreciate.

Omenihu later wrote on X: “These Twitter GM’s kill me. 95% of the time yall be wrong as hell.”
