Deion Sanders has added former Minnesota Gophers head coach Tim Brewster to Jackson State's football staff, along with a new strength coach and four new analysts, according to a release.

“These men will significantly impact JSU football,” Sanders said. “We are not building a coaching staff. We are building a program that can be dominant and have sustainability.”

Brewster's title will be Senior Assistant Head Coach. He's specialized in coaching receivers and tight-ends during most of his assistant coaching stops, which include Mississippi State, Texas A&M, and Florida. T.C. Taylor will remain wide receivers coach coach, and Michael Pollock will continue to coach tight-ends.

JSU RECRUITING: Deion Sanders is landing 4-star receivers and DBs. Will he have same success with linemen?

“I'm extremely blessed to be here at Jackson State, a program just steeped with tremendous HBCU tradition,” Brewster said. “Being here with Coach Prime is just an amazing opportunity for me as a coach, and I couldn't be more excited about this opportunity.”

Maurice Sims, who spent the past two seasons as Georgia's associate director of strength of conditioning, has been hired as JSU's director of strength and conditioning. Previous stops include North Carolina, North Carolina A&T, and Army.

“I’m definitely excited for this opportunity,” Sims said. “We will utilize the great staff that we have, and we all work well together. I will learn from them, and they will learn from me as we push the guys to get to optimum levels mentally and physically.”

Gunnar White, Andrew Zimmer, Brandon Morton, and Kendall Adams, will join the staff as analysts.

White, a JSU alum, returns to Jackson after a stint as a student assistant coach with the Tigers in 2015. He later coached at Belhaven, Nevada, and was most recently defensive line coach for The Linemen, a team in the Spring League which is a developmental league for aspiring professionals.

Zimmer is the nephew of Minnesota Vikings coach Mike Zimmer. He played college football at Kansas and spent last season as a quality control analyst at Eastern Illinois.

“I’m grateful that Coach Prime was willing to bring me here to help this team win football games,” Zimmer said. “I’m excited to be around a winning team and see what a winning team looks like and help bring the program to another championship season.”

Morton, who played running back at Charleston Southern and San Diego state, was promoted after interning at JSU last season.

“Working here at Jackson State, I’m glad to be a part of this movement,” Morton said. “My goal is to make men great on the field and off the field as far as teaching life lessons and getting the best out of each day.”

Adams, a former Kansas State safety, joins JSU after a year of coaching high school football at t All Saints Episcopal School in Fort Worth, Texas as an assistant.

“I know this program is on the rise because of what Coach Prime is doing here, and what he’s doing for HBCUs is huge,” Adams said. “I feel honored they allowed me to come on board and learn from this staff and learn more football knowledge so I can become a head coach in the future.”
