DeKalb crash claims the life of Cottondale woman

A Cottondale woman was fatally injured in a single-vehicle crash Wednesday in DeKalb County, according to Alabama State Troopers.

Johnnitta Lavelle Mason, 38, was a passenger in a 2002 Mercury Grand Marquis that left the roadway and struck a tree at about 8 a.m. Wednesday. She was not using a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on Interstate 59, near the 202-mile marker about three miles south of Collinsville. The driver of the vehicle, Victor Antwan Lawson, 36, of Cottondale, was not injured, according to troopers.

Troopers continue to investigate the crash.
