Del City superstar center Brandon Garrison loves watching highlights of the McDonald’s All American Game.

“LeBron, I watched some of his highlights,” Garrison said, choosing a favorite.

But who does the Oklahoma State signee and four-star recruit model his game after from past games?

“Bam,” he said, pointing to Bam Adebayo, a 2016 McDonald’s All-American.

Now, Garrison has a chance to make his own highlights.

He will play in the annual showcase game at 8 p.m. Tuesday (ESPN) in Houston, capping his prestigious high school career that includes a gold medal with Team USA and two state championships among other accolades.

Garrison spoke with reporters Monday about his experience.

Q: You’ve followed in the footsteps of guys who have come from Oklahoma to play in this game, like Bryce Thompson, Trae Young and Blake Griffin. What does that mean to you being from Oklahoma and joining that elite club?

A: It means a lot because a lot of kids out of Oklahoma don’t get recognized like that. Just me being recognized, getting McDonald’s All American, getting all the accolades, it means a lot.

A lot of those guys ended up staying and playing in Oklahoma. You’re doing the same thing. What went into that decision?

Oklahoma State’s been my dream school. Me and Coach B have a strong relationship. He told me how I fit in and things like that and I just chose there. I wanted to stay close to home.

Tell us about your experience when you found out that you were named an All American.

My experience was good. When I found out, we was actually at practice, and Coach (Lenny Hatchett) was looking on the ESPN site or whatever it was on. And then after practice, we was all walking out, and he called us back and then he showed me I made it; and it was very exciting.

What’s your advice to kids looking up to you?

Just don’t forget where you came from. Always work hard, and just stay in the gym.

Del City, Oklahoma – what does it mean to represent your hometown?

It means a lot. People doubted me and stuff, so I just showed them I can do it and put on for my city.

What would you say the reaction has been like in Del City among your family and friends since you’ve been named McDonald’s All American?

Everybody’s just been very excited and just (had) faith in me ever since I was little, and just excitement and happiness.

What does it mean to you to not only have this individual accomplishment, but also then lead your team to the state title this year, too?

It means a lot. We came up short last year, so I was just telling the boys that we can come up short last year and get it our last (senior) year.

What has been the biggest benefit for you this week with the McDonald’s All American Games?

Just playing in front of NBA scouts, getting better playing with dudes my level and just working hard.

Earlier Monday, Mike Boynton was talking glowingly about your passing ability. How have you grown in that area?

I get doubled and tripled a lot in high school basketball, so I’ve been working on doing all the right things to make the right pass.
