Del Rio Vineyard offers free U-pick zinnias again

Jul. 27—Del Rio Vineyard Estate in Gold Hill has opened the seventh season of its U-pick zinnia flower farm, and it is slated to continue until the first frost of autumn, the company announced Wednesday.

"Gracing the base of the 300-acre vineyard estate is a beautiful half-acre farm of zinnias," according to a news advisory from Del Rio.

"The zinnia farm began in 2016 by Jolee Wallace, owner of Del Rio Vineyards. ... The public is welcome to pick zinnias for free. The only rule is to Flower-It-Forward: For every bouquet you pick for yourself, Jolee asks that you pick one for someone else. Share the beauty and gift of flowers with someone in a care facility, a friend in need or even a stranger in need of a smile," the company said.

Flowers are open for picking from dawn to dusk. Water and vases are available for those who do not have their own, and vase donations are happily accepted. The flowers are not for resale or for events.

"Be kind in taking what you need and leaving some for others," the company asked. "Share your 'Flower-It-Forward' adventures ... on social media by tagging @delriovineyards on Instagram or Facebook."
