DeLand High School seniors celebrate graduation

DeLand High School seniors celebrated their achievements Thursday night with family and friends during the commencement exercise at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach.

The newly minted graduates had plenty to be proud of, according to school officials. Of the 597 seniors, 51 received scholar designations; 201 received merit designations; seven received the silver Florida Seal of Biliteracy; 26 received the gold Florida Seal of Biliteracy; and 43 received associate degrees.

Seventeen graduates have enlisted in the armed services. Additionally, students earned 31,726 community service hours.
