Delaware County Opens Coronavirus Vaccination Site In Yeadon

YEADON, PA — Delaware County's first mass coronavirus vaccination site officially opened Wednesday morning as eager residents clamor to be inoculated from the virus.

Officials held a ribbon cutting Wednesday at the Delaware County Wellness Center.

The 11,235-square-foot center, located at 125 Chester Ave. in Yeadon, is both a mass coronavirus vaccination site and a storage site.

As of Tuesday, 20,338 people in Delaware County have received their first dose of the coronavirus vaccine. As for full vaccinations, 4,001 people in the county have been totally vaccinated.

People who live or work in Delaware County can preregister for the vaccine by completing this form online here. Vaccines are free of charge and for people age 16 and older who live or work in Delaware County.

Completion of the form registers a person's interest in receiving the vaccine, and the information
provided helps the Chester County Health Department to place each individual into the Phase 1A, 1B, 1C, and Phase 2 categories.

All residents 65 and older, and those 16 to 64 years old with certain medical conditions are eligible for the vaccination under Phase 1A.

The Delaware County Wellness Center will also be the hub of the county's health department, which is in the long process of being formed.

"The Delaware County Health Department strives to promote, protect, and assure conditions for optimal health for all residents of Delaware County through leadership, prevention, response, and partnership with the community," the county said in a statement. "The Wellness Center is a key step and Delaware County Council is enthused to open its door and share an update on the work that has been done, is being done and a timeline to officially launch the Delaware County Health Department."

Delaware County's health needs have been served by the Chester County Health Department since late March after Delco officials requested the state allow Chesco to do so in the absence of a Delco health department.
