DO Delaware: Love Seed Mama Jump, Beach Boys tribute, Arden Fair 2022 and more

Hanging at Arden Fair

This annual event in Arden has outlived more than 99.9% of Americans. Yeah, it’s that ancient. But in “event” years, old age is a source of pride, not embarrassment.

The 114th Arden Fair is rain or shine and features everything from handmade crafts by over 100 vendors (most of whom are local) to children’s games and rides, used books, live music an art exhibit and more.

According to the website’s music lineup, the Shady Grove area offers live soundtrack from Diamond State Concert Band, Howl Train, Stevie and the Bluescasters, Lost Northern Tribe, Nicely, Hawkins, etc…, Cure for Pain, PJ and Spokey Speaky.

The Arden Fair will launch near the Arden Gild Hall (2126 The Highway, Arden), from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday. For more information, visit ardenclub.org or (302) 475-3126.

Love Seed Mama Jump & more bands

This band can stop traffic, because their unusual name makes people do a double take.

Longtime and beloved band Love Seed Mama Jump celebrated its 30th anniversary with a hometown concert at the Rusty Rudder last year, a venue they’ve gigged at since July 1991.

The pop-rock band will be next door this time, sharing the stage and good times with LauraLea & Tripp Fabulous, The Loop, Shake the Room and DJ Knappy.

Bottle & Cork (1807 Highway One, Dewey Beach) at 5 p.m. Saturday. For more info, visit bottleandcork.com or (302) 227-7272.

Beach Boys tribute band

It’s that time of year where the summer is going to get put to bed soon.

But the Beach Boys tribute band Still Surfin’ is looking to make a last-minute splash and to lay summer to sleep on a water bed of wavy tunes.

This includes big hits like “Surfin’ U.S.A.,” “Wouldn’t It Be Nice,” “God Only Knows,” “Don’t Worry Baby” and “I Get Around.”

Still Surfin’ will hang 10 downstate at the Bethany Beach Bandstand (Boardwalk, Bethany Beach) at 7:30 p.m. Sunday. For more information, visit townofbethanybeach.com or (302) 539-8011.

‘Summer of Soul’ movie

Everyone’s familiar with the epic Woodstock fest. But have you heard of the famous Harlem Cultural Festival?

It’s a festival that took place over the course of six Sundays, including the same weekend as Woodstock, and it attracted massive crowds to New York.

The lineup featured performances by legendary Black artists that included Stevie Wonder, Nina Simone, Sly and the Family Stone, Mahalia Jackson, B.B. King and The 5th Dimension. It also featured Gladys Knight, who’s performing at Bally’s Dover Casino Resort on Oct. 7.

But for some reason, the footage from all of those major concerts was never seen (and virtually forgotten) until last year.

Folks will get a chance to experience the festival in the 2021 documentary “Summer of Soul,” directed by Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson, drummer of the Philly hip-hop group The Roots.

“Summer of Soul” is rated PG-13 and will screen at Dover Public Library (35 Loockerman Plaza, Dover) from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Tuesday. Admission is free. For more information, visit dover.lib.de.us or (302) 736-7030.

Disco Biscuits at The Grand

A dance party will activate when the Disco Biscuits bring their cosmic energy to Wilmington.

The Philly band is known for delivering “transfusion,” a mix of fusion and jam band. The Disco gang has been grooving listeners since the ‘90s with favorites like “Portal to an Empty Head,” “On Time” and “We Like to Party.”

This transfusion adventure is going down at The Grand (818 N. Market St., Wilmington) at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Tickets are $57 to $75. For more information, visit thegrandwilmington.org or (800) 37-GRAND.
