Delaware man fatally stabbed during Connecticut altercation; police charge man with murder

An arrest was made Wednesday in connection to a Connecticut homicide that left a Delaware man dead a few days before Christmas, according to police.

The victim, 37-year-old Jose Virola, was killed Dec. 22 in Waterbury, Connecticut, after an altercation, according to the Waterbury Police Department.

The victim's death was first investigated as "untimely," but classified as a homicide investigation shortly after, according to police.

On Dec. 27, five days after the incident, police charged 33-year-old Sean Lawrence with murder, first-degree assault and first-degree conspiracy to commit assault, according to police.

According to investigators, police believe that Virola was involved in an earlier disturbance with a woman, which led to a physical altercation between him and Lawrence, whom the woman knew.

Virola sustained a stab wound during the incident and was found dead at the scene, police said.

Lawrence was held on a $3 million bond pending a court arraignment scheduled for Thursday.

Police said that this is an active investigation with more arrests expected.

Those with information are asked to contact the Waterbury Police Department Detective Bureau at (203) 574-6941, or through Crime Stoppers, an anonymous tip line, at (203) 755-1234.
