Delaware woman, 26, dead after being run over by state trooper and two other vehicles

Delaware cops are investigating after a 26-year-old woman was hit by a police car while crossing the street, then run over by two other vehicles on Saturday night.

The crash happened at 7:30 p.m. when the woman stepped out of an Economy Inn into the northbound lane of South Dupont Blvd. in Smyrna, putting her in the path of a trooper’s Chevrolet Police Tahoe.

After being hit by the cop car, the woman was run over by a Toyota Highlander and a Kia Sorento that were behind the Tahoe, according to reports.

“The 26-year-old female pedestrian from Smyrna, Delaware, was not carrying a flashlight nor crossing at a designated crossing area,” police said in a statement. “It is not yet confirmed whether she was under the influence of alcohol or not.”

Cops didn’t release the victim’s name pending family notification.

The 23-year-old trooper behind the wheel of the Tahoe was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, police said. The drivers of the other two vehicles — a 25-year-old woman and a 32-year-old man — were not injured.

The road heading north was closed for more than three hours as investigators gathered evidence. They appealed to the public for any information, seeking witnesses to the crash.
