Delayed reopening of Oakland Mad Mex shows labor shortages still challenging for restaurants

Bill Fuller doesn’t need to explain much when it comes to the delayed reopening of Big Burrito Restaurant Group’s original Mad Mex restaurant in Oakland.

Amid all the challenges caused by the pandemic, Big Burrito announced last November that it was going to close its Mad Mex restaurant at 370 Atwood Street for what was expected to be the winter season.

Nearly a year later, the Oakland Mad Mex restaurant just recently opened.

“Our goal was to reopen it for the spring,” said Fuller, president and corporate chef of Big Burrito.

“That was then,” he added. “Here we are.”
