Delays expected during U.S. 287 and Colo. 52 work

Jul. 5—The Colorado Department of Transportation along with contract partner Villalobos Concrete, Inc. will be implementing traffic control measures on July 10 during certain work activities for the U.S. 287 and Colo. 52 intersection improvement project between the cities of Longmont and Broomfield in Boulder County, according to a release.

On July 10, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., all directions of traffic at the intersection of U.S. 287 and Colo. 52 will be stalled for up to 20 minutes while crews install mast arms on the new signal poles. The work will entail suspending heavy loads over active traffic lanes, and traffic control personnel will be onsite to manage traffic flows. CDOT is strongly advising alternate routes.

CDOT will also implement a 24/7 right lane closure starting July 10 on eastbound Colo. 52 to accommodate asphalt work and will remain in place for several weeks. The work zone on U.S. 287 extends north and south from milepost 310.140 to milepost 310.670, and east and west from milepost 4.35 to milepost 5.0 on Colo. 52.

According to CDOT, the project will increase capacity and traffic flow at all four corners of the intersection, as well as widen Colo. 52 on the north and south sides to accommodate an additional left turn lane and widen U.S. 287 to the east to add an additional left turn lane for both northbound and southbound traffic.

Other improvements include making drainage improvements and adding traffic signal poles, pedestrian poles and ADA ramps.

The project began in January and is anticipated to be completed by late fall.
