Drivers can expect delays and may want to avoid the area Monday and Tuesday as crews work to reconstruct, widen and improve a 1.3-mile section of Route 1 in Bensalem and Middletown.

What are the travel restrictions on Route 1 in Bensalem this week?
Monday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., intermittent five-minute traffic stoppages are scheduled on eastbound Rockhill Drive between Horizon Boulevard and Neshaminy Boulevard;
Tuesday, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Wednesday, intermittent 20-minute traffic stoppages are scheduled on westbound Rockhill Drive between Horizon Boulevard and Neshaminy Boulevard; and
Tuesday, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Wednesday, a right lane closure is scheduled on northbound U.S. 1 between the Pennsylvania Turnpike Interchange and Bristol Road.

PennDOT is reconstructing and widening Route 1, improving the interchanges, and constructing new bridges over the Neshaminy Creek, Rockhill Drive, and over rail lines near the Penndel/Business U.S. 1 exit under the $113.3 million second phase of the major overhaul of the road in Bucks County.
PennDOT said the work will be ongoing for several more years with a finish date in mid-2026.

The first phase of improvements between Old Lincoln Highway and the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Bensalem were completed in December. A third phase, which will improve Route 1 between Penndel/Business U.S. 1 and Corn Crib Lane (north of Route 413), is currently in preliminary engineering with construction bids tentatively expected to be opened in late 2026, officials said.
