Delegate McKay in the lead for state Senate seat; incumbents on top in House of Delegates races

The race on the Republican ballot to take over a state Senate seat from a retiring lawmaker is separated by just over 1,600 votes. Meanwhile, one of the incumbents for a state delegate district representing half of Washington County and an incumbent delegate representing Hagerstown are poised to move on to the general election.

Here are the unofficial primary election results from state Senate District 1, House of Delegates District 2A and House of Delegates District 2B.

The results include votes cast on Tuesday, as well as early voting. However, there were just under 8,000 mail-in ballots sent out ahead of the primary, and just over 5,000 were received by Election Day. Any ballot postmarked by that day and received before 10 a.m. July 29 will be counted.

The Washington County Board of Elections will count the mail-in votes starting Thursday.
