Dell Rapids superintendent to head Brookings School District

Summer Schultz, superintendent for the Dell Rapids School District for the last 11 years, will go on to serve as the superintendent of the Brookings School District next school year.

Her resignation from the Dell Rapids School District was approved during a May 2 special board meeting in Dell Rapids, and her contract with the Brookings School District was approved by the board Monday night after an executive session. Schultz’ contract begins July 1.

Klint Willert, the current superintendent of the Brookings School District, resigned from his position during a March 22 special board meeting, and his tenure ends June 2.

Schultz will be involved in some key decisions with the Brookings School District before July 1, including hiring a new high school principal and an activities director.

Willert said in a statement during the meeting that he wanted to personally extend his congratulations to Schultz. The two have been colleagues for years, dating back to when Schultz was a classroom teacher while Willert was superintendent in Marshall, Minnesota.

“I wish her the best as she leads the Brookings School District forward,” Willert said in his statement.
