Deloitte CEO: Millennials are not ‘that different’ from past generations

When it comes to career goals, millennials aren’t so different from previous generations, according to Deloitte CEO Joseph Ucuzoglu.

“Millennials are not that different from past generations in a lot of respects,” Ucuzoglu said at Yahoo Finance’s All Markets Summit in New York City. “They want to have great careers, they want to have great opportunities - but what is of paramount importance is that they feel like the organization they're working for is doing good from a societal standpoint and contributing to the community around us.”

Ucuzoglu points to a recent development from the Business Roundtable, an association of leading U.S. CEOs, which updated its statement on the purpose of a corporation back in August to ‘promote an economy that serves all Americans.’

“You see this across the business community,” he said.

With that, Ucuzoglu is cognizant of the need to attract the best talent to Deloitte, especially in a tight labor market with the unemployment rate at just 3.5%, the lowest level in five decades.

“And individuals who have a choice are asking the question, what are you going to do to invest back in me? Does your organization align with my values?,” he said, referring to how prospective candidates approach their employment search.
