The reborn DeLorean brand launched its first car, the Alpha5, back in May 2022. Production of the all-electric grand-tourer isn't supposed to start until 2024, yet Hot Wheels has already made a die-cast model of the car.

The 1:64 scale model will be physically revealed alongside the real car this week during a special event at Monterey Car Week. According to Hot Wheels, it took four months to develop the model, with the company using digital rendering, 3D printing, and prototype models to get the design just right.

“The Hot Wheels design team worked closely with DeLorean to recreate the Alpha5 as a die-cast car, carefully depicting its proportions to showcase its true lines as a Hot Wheels, while maintaining the design language that was perfectly executed by Italdesign,” global head of vehicles at Mattel Ted Wu said in a statement. “We are excited to share this special car with fans all over the world.”

Hot Wheels says prospective buyers will be able to pre-order the DeLorean Alpha5 die-cast model starting on August 18 at 1:30 pm eastern time. We suspect first deliveries will begin long before the real cars reach buyer's hands.
