Delphos City Schools accept Westrick resignation as he becomes Bluffton Middle School principal

May 13—DELPHOS — The Delphos Board of Education accepted the resignation of Delphos Superintendent Doug Westrick Saturday morning.

Westrick, who was previously a principal at Jefferson Middle School, announced earlier in the week that he would be departing to take a position at Bluffton Middle School July 21.

"Right now we're focusing on a replacement of our treasurer, who will retire at the end of this year," Board Vice President Tina Brinkman said. "So we are on a full search for a new treasurer and the Mercer County ESC is working with us on that. They are doing a wonderful job of getting us candidates and walking us through that process so we will be having a quick discussion with them next week to see what services they could provide on getting us an interim and long-term superintendent, but right now we want to focus on interviewing for the treasurer position since we are in the middle of that process."

In a statement, Westrick expressed gratitude for his time at Delphos and excitement at the prospect of getting to work with students again.

"I am grateful to the Delphos Board of Education for providing me the opportunity to lead the district the past four years," he said. "During this time, we have made significant strides to move the district forward. I am fortunate to have worked with outstanding staff, students, parents and Delphos community members along the way. However, I have discovered that I miss working with students and Bluffton is allowing me the opportunity to lead their middle school. I'm excited for this new chapter in my career and can't wait to meet the Bluffton staff and get to work."

Delphos Board member Jamey Wisher reassured parents that the district would continue on a solid path.

"Just know that the district is in great hands," he said. "We have capable principals and we have great staff that will keep business running as usual. We will continue strong as always."

Bluffton Superintendent Greg Denecker expressed excitement about hiring Westrick.

"We are excited to welcome Doug to Bluffton Exempted Village Schools," he said. "He brings strong administrative and leadership experience to the role of middle school principal. It will be great to have him be a Pirate."
