Delta Animal Shelter’s February Pets of the Month

ESCANABA, Mich. (WJMN) – It’s time for Delta Animal Shelter’s February Pets of the Month.

The first animal being highlighted this month is Enoch. Enoch is a two-year-old neutered male medium bulldog mixed breed. Enoch has been featured on this segment before, but he has yet to find the right family to bring him home. This sweet but nervous boy is looking for a slow-paced home. Though he takes time to adjust to new places and humans, once he trusts you, he will shower you with kisses and hugs. Enoch’s adoption fee is $175.

“One thing about Enoch is that he was not socialized whatsoever as a puppy. So, he has a lot of fear,” said Adoption Specialist Vonnie Bruce. “He can be reactive about certain things. And he’s been with us a little while. He’s just like looking for something very specific. He’s looking for to be the only pet in a home. He’s not a super big fan of sharing his space, but he’s a king so I don’t blame him. He needs his own throne.

“He also gets a little nervous with little kids. It’s just something new for him. That can be a little overwhelming. You know, ideally for Enoch would be like a one-person household, somebody who has experience with dogs, who is willing to be patient with him and give him a chance and just, you know, let him ease in and don’t push him because he has a tough time. And he has had kind of a rough, kind of a rough past but he deserves the best,” said Bruce.

Next up for Pets of the Month is Rock, an 18-year-old neutered male domestic shorthaired cat. Rock is a laid-back senior kitty who loves everyone he meets. He is ready to enjoy his golden years lounging in the sun. Rock’s adoption fee is $25.

“He is 18, so he’s the oldest cat we have at the shelter right now, and also probably the sweetest,” said Bruce. “So, he was surrendered, unfortunately his owner sadly passed, and the family wasn’t able to keep him, which is a really sad situation. Unfortunately, it does happen but that’s why we’re here. But yeah, he’s 18, he’s a neutered male. He has lived with kids, dogs, cats. He is just a chill, old grandpa.”

If you would like to adopt Rock or Enoch, you can apply online at deltaanimal.org. The Delta Animal Shelter is also open Monday through Friday, noon to 4 p.m.
