Delta planning to cut 100 flights per day starting July 1

The Memorial Day Weekend and unofficial kick off to the summer travel season began on Friday with nearly 300 delays and cancelations at Hartsfield Jackson International Airport.

Compared to last year, the demand to travel is up nearly 25 percent which is also contributing to the snowball effect forcing both a rise in cost and a rise in flight cancellations.

This week, Delta warned travelers to expect more cancelations and delays throughout the summer travel season. Starting July 1st, Delta plans to cut 100 flights per day to adjust to their current staff – impacting only between one and two percent of overall daily flights at the airport.

Additional cuts and adjustments are expected to also impact Delta customers who pay extra fees for annual memberships which include perks like getting access to the Delta Sky Club.

Some Delta customers will no longer have unlimited access to the Sky Club where members can access complimentary food, beverages, and alcohol.

On June 1st, some members will now be limited to just three hours in the Sky Club.

Channel 2′s Elizbeth Rawlins spoke to nearly a half dozen travelers Friday afternoon about the upcoming changes. While the costs and cuts are not ideal, many travelers don’t seem to be phased.

What may have been a deal-breaker for some travelers just two years ago, the cost and experience of the pandemic makes the cost of any new enjoyable experience seem priceless.
