Delta Air Lines is bringing a slate of new flights to New York City to Charlotte Douglas International Airport by November.

The airline is adding 25% more capacity this fall to meet the increase in travel demand, Delta said in a statement.

The boost includes operating seven daily flights from CLT to LaGuardia Airport and five daily flights to John F. Kennedy International Airport.

That’s up from five daily flights to LaGuardia and three daily flights to JFK the airline operated this month.

Passenger numbers at the Charlotte airport took a dramatic dive in early 2020 as the coronavirus pandemic hit North Carolina.

Now, airport traffic is back to nearly pre-pandemic levels.

In fact, in July — the most recent month of passenger data available — passengers boarding planes at the Charlotte airport surpassed 2019 levels for the first time since the pandemic hit North Carolina early last year.

More than 2.2 million people boarded planes at CLT in July this year, compared to just under 2.2 million in the same month of 2019.
