Demi Lovato opened up about her “sacred” friendships with Ariana Grande and Miley Cyrus

Whether she’s being transparent with fans about addiction, opening up about her mental health struggles, or speaking out about body acceptance, Demi Lovato never shies away from difficult topics. Her candor has helped so many. And she credits her own friendships—specifically, her female friendships—for helping her through these “darkest times” so she can share with others.

In classic Lovato fashion, Demi again bared all in her new interview with Harper’s Bazaar.

“I always long for friendships with women,” she said. “I think it’s so sacred. And actually, late last year, the night of the winter solstice, I had about 16 girls [for a] group meditation, and we set our intentions for the new year.”

Lovato continued, “It was so beautiful, and that divine feminine energy is what has picked me up and carried me through some of my darkest times.”

In recent years, Lovato has rebuilt specific friendships from women in her past. In 2018, for example, she reconnected with fellow Disney star Ariana Grande—who commented “PRETTIEST” and “BYE” on Lovato’s above Instagram post from the magazine shoot.

“I love the fact that Ariana and I have such a supportive friendship because it’s hard to find,” she said. “Two women who are in a competitive industry—the whole world seems to want to pit women against each other, so it would be so easy to do that.

She also still talks with another former-Disney alum Miley Cyrus. “I talk to Miley,” she said. “She’s awesome, and I love her to death and always will, always have.”

Sorry, Camp Rock fans. Lovato added that Cyrus was “the only one from that era” that she’s still in contact with. She specifically noted that she’s fallen out of touch with the Jonas Brothers and Selena Gomez. Despite Gomez’s shoutout earlier this year, commending Lovato for her heartfelt Grammys performance, the pair still remain on each others’ outskirts.

“When you grow up with somebody, you’re always going to have love for them. But I’m not friends with [Gomez]…I will always have love for her, and I wish everybody nothing but the best,” she said.
