DEMING – Deming High Science Olympiad teams competed February 25-26, 2022, in the Science Olympiad State Competition. On Feb. 25, the students were housed at DHS Information Nation to participate online for all the non-build events/categories.

On Feb. 26, DHS Science Olympiad team, along with Mr. John Valdes (head coach) and Mr. Reynaldo Belen (co-coach), traveled to New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology (NMTECH) in Socorro, New Mexico to compete for the build events/categories.

At the end of the day, participants from different schools in New Mexico's Division B and C gathered at the Macy's Center for the awarding ceremony. The first part of the program was for the awarding for Division B, middle school students. The second part was for the awarding for Division C, high school students. For Division C, 21 high schools from across the state participated in the 2022 Science Olympiad State Competition.

Deming High School Science Olympiad team collected 13 awards/medals out of 28 events and categories. Overall Deming High School Science Olympiad Team ranked ninth among the 21 high school who participated in the tournament across New Mexico.

On Feb. 12, 2022, the team also competed for Science Olympiad Regional competition in Silver City, NM, and brought home more awards. The event was hosted by Western New Mexico University and was participated by 10 different high schools from the southwest region of the state. For the regional tournament, DHS students ranked eighth among the 10 schools who participated in the southwest region.
