Alan Carreon signing

Deming High School would like to announce the official commitment/signing of senior student-athlete Alan Carreon to El Paso Community College in El Paso, Texas. He has received the official documentation necessary to play baseball for the Tejanos. The official signing will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 6, 2022 in the campus main gym. Join us for this event.

Church barbecue

Antioch Missionary Baptist Church at 513 W. First St. in Deming, NM will have a barbecue fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday. Plates are $10 for brisket or ribs and $12 for a combination of brisket and ribs.

Delivery is available within city limits. Call 575-936-4279 after 10 a.m. on Friday for orders. Proceeds benefit the building revitalization project.

Deming Photo Club

The next meeting of the Deming Photo Club will be held at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, May 10, in the meeting room of the Marshall Memorial Library, located at 110 S. Diamond Avenue. Bring your five photos of spring.

Community choir concert

The Deming Community Choir, under the Direction of Barbara Leupold, will be giving its Spring Concert at 3 p.m. on Mother's Day, May 8, at the First Christian Church, located at 119 W. Maple St. Donations will be welcomed. Parking is on the street or in the bank parking lot.

Celebration of Life Walk

The 17th Annual Celebration of Life Wal will be held from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 7, at Voiers' "Pit" Park. Vendors are welcome and set up is free. This year's honorary "Cancer Warriors" are Rebecca Sanchez and Adrian Loya.

Organizations are invited to set up a booth to provide awareness as to the services that are available in Deming and Luna County. As an exhibitor/vendor, we are asking you to register for the event. You can register by emailing celebration@demingcancersupport.com.

NMSP checkpoints

New Mexico State Police will be conducting sobriety checkpoints, saturation patrols; and registration, insurance, and driver's license checkpoints in all New Mexico counties during May 2022.

State police are bringing awareness to the community to reduce the number of impaired driving-related crashes and fatalities through continued media attention and intensive advertising.

State police sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols are helping to change society's attitude about driving while under the influence of intoxicating liquor and or drugs.

Hundreds of lives could be saved each year if every driver had the courage to make the right decision to not drive impaired.

JROTC Cadet’s Ball

The Deming High School Junior Reserve Officer’s Training Corps (JROTC) will host its annual Cadets’ Ball at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 6, 2022 at the DHS dining facility.

Following the social, the receiving line will begin formally meeting guests at 6:30 p.m. The ceremony will be from 7 to 10 p.m. and the attire is formal (coat and tie required).

MainStreet block party

Deming MainStreet will host a block party from 7 to 11 p.m. on Saturday, May 14, on Silver Avenue and Spruce Street.

The Horizon Band will be playing and Boogies' Brewery and Distillery will be serving drinks. DMS has invited vendors to set up and some businesses in the area will be open.

The community is invited to come out and rock the block with Deming MainStreet as they enjoy music, dancing, food, shopping and more in downtown Deming.

DAC call for artists

The Deming Art Council is looking for artists to participate in the June Show which features Luna County artists. Each participant must be a Luna County resident and may enter between 1 to 3 items. Intake for the month-long show will be from 9 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, May 31, 2022.

The Deming Arts Center is needing bottlecaps of any size to use for a class. Could you please save them and drop them off at the center?

Children's art class

The Deming Art Council is registering children for free art classes at the Deming Art Center, 100 S. Gold Street. Call the center at 575-546-3663 or stop by and sign up.

The first class will be from 10 a.m. to noon on the second Saturday in May. All ages are welcome.
