NMSP checkpoints

New Mexico State Police will be conducting sobriety checkpoints, saturation patrols; and registration, insurance, and driver's license checkpoints in all New

Mexico counties during July.

NMSP is bringing awareness to these events to reduce impaired driving-related fatalities through continued media attention and intensive advertising.

These checkpoints are helping to change society's attitude about driving while under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drugs.

Hundreds of lives could be saved each year if every driver had the courage to

make the right decision not to drive impaired.

Blood donor drawing

As a special thank you to donors for helping replenish the blood supply, donors who give with Vitalant will be entered to win one of 3, $3,000 prepaid gift cards. That will go a long way toward filling your gas tank for a year, keep your pantry shelves full or more.

The deadline for blood donors to qualify for the drawings is July 20, 2022.

Terms and conditions apply. Learn more at vitalant.org/summer2022giveaway. Donors are encouraged to make their appointments now.

Hundreds of appointments still need to be filled in New Mexico to prevent any delays in patient care.

Blood donations continue to go out to hospitals more quickly than they are being collected.

Donors of all blood types are needed, especially type O.

The majority of people are eligible, but only 3% give.

Free smoke alarms

On July 25 and 26, beginning at 10 a.m., the Luna County Fire Department and Smoke Alarms Save Lives! will install free smoke alarms to Luna County residents.

You can request a smoke alarm today and set up an appointment by calling 575-543-6641 or email Fire Chief Pablo Montoya at pablo_montoya@lunacountynm.us.

Working smoke alarms can cut the risk of death from home fires in half.

Luna County is rallying volunteers, fire departments and partners to sound the alarm, where it’s safe to do so.
