DEMING – There is a big push to improve the level of play for basketball teams in Deming Public Schools. The Deming Youth Basketball League is registering players for the 2022 season in an attempt to get children acclimated to the fundamentals and skills at a young age. The program's top priority is "HAVE FUN."

Boys and girls in grades 1st through 3rd and in grades 4th through 6th are eligible to play in the league. The cost is $50 per player and $75 for families with two players. The cost includes a uniform and a trophy.

Parents and guardians can register their children from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 19, and Saturday, Jan. 21, at Frank Dooley Court on the campus of Deming High School.

The last day to register your child is from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 26, at the court.

The overall league concept is to introduce the game of basketball to children at a young age and hope that they learn the basic fundamentals associated with Wildcat and Lady 'Cat basketball. Team concepts will be emphasized in the framework of competitive play.

However, the No. 1 priority is to have fun in the process.
