Demo day is Tuesday for participants in accelerator program sponsored by Erie chamber

The FIRE Accelerator program sponsored by the Erie Regional Chamber and Growth Partnership will host a demo day Tuesday, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the H.O. Hirt Auditorium at Blasco Library.

Demo day is the program's graduation showcase for the six companies that will be graduating from the 2021 program.

• The Greater Erie Board of Realtors raised more than $19,000 for charity with its fourth annual Designer Bag Bingo Plus event.

The $19,306 raised by the event will benefit the Veterans Miracle Center in Erie. It was the fourth year in a row that the project raised more than $10,0000.

• Penn State Behrend is introducing a new interdisciplinary science and business major that will prepare students for positions in the business offices of laboratories, pharmaceutical companies or environmental firms.

“Science-related businesses often have to spend time getting new employees up to speed on the ins and outs of the more technical aspects of their operation,” said Michael Rutter, associate professor of statistics and co-chair of the ISB program. “Our graduates will already have a foundation in those key scientific concepts, plus have the skills needed to handle the business aspects of their roles.”
