There are still plenty of things to do in Galesburg in August. Here are five events to check out this week in the Galesburg area, courtesy Galesburg Tourism & Visitors Bureau.

Annual Abingdon Fall Festival features activities, entertainment

Drive up Route 41 to Abingdon to commemorate the finale of summer and firsts of fall at the Abingdon Fall Festival. Starting Thursday, August 25th and finishing up on Sunday, August 28th, this extended weekend event includes the following:

• Thursday: Flowers & Vegetable, Arts & Craft judging; Figure 8

• Friday: Demo Derby

• Saturday: Goat, Sheep, Swine & Beef judging; Chicken & Pig Scramble; Arm Band Night

• Sunday: Baked goods judging and auction; John R. Thurman Memorial Pee-Wee Livestock Show; Kids events; Arm Band Day; Trophies & Awards, and Livestock Auction. For details, visit Abingdon Community Festival on Facebook.

Jazz concert on the back patio of Prairie Players Theatre

Join Prairie Players Civic Theatre on Friday, Aug. 26, at 7 p.m. on the back patio for a jazz concert featuring Harry Tonchev and Galesburg native, Andy Crawford. Tonchev is a jazz guitarist who is very active in Chicago and central Illinois. His high energy trio focuses on improvisational music by exploring a mixture of originals and standards from the Great American Songbook. Bring a lawn chair and enjoy food and drinks to complete the evening. Tickets are just $10 and can be bought at the door.

Pokey LaFarge Performs at The Orpheum Theatre

Pokey LaFarge returns to The Orpheum Theatre stage at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 26. His music style is unique, crossing between old-fashioned blues, vintage country, and retro rock ‘n roll. LaFarge’s new album, "In the Blossom of Their Shade," has been dubbed “the perfect summer afternoon soundtrack.” Local Americana duo, Dance Hall Doves, featuring Core Weisenberger and Erin Glasnovich will open for Pokey LaFarge & His Band. Tickets for Pokey LaFarge are only $25 and are on sale now. 17th Annual Car Cruise Comes to Knoxville

Located in historic downtown Knoxville, the 17th Annual Car Cruise features cars of all kinds, including classic, hot-rods, and special interest vehicles of all years and makes. Starting at 2 p.m., this free event is sponsored by the Knoxville Better Community Association and is open to the public. Walk around downtown, purchase food and drink from local establishments, and listen to local, live music nearby. Merchandise available for purchase. Bishop Hill Chautauqua brings free festival

Bishop Hill’s 9th Annual Chautauqua looks back at the history of the Chautauqua Movement. “We have invited these voices from the past who have something to say to our audiences today,” says Artistic Director Brian “Fox” Ellis. On Saturday, Aug. 27, and Sunday, Aug., 28, the Bishop Hill Heritage Association will host this free festival in the newly restored gazebo in the town square. All programs will be held at the newly restored gazebo in Bishop Hill’s town square, on the corners of Main Street and Bishop Hill Road, in Bishop Hill. Folks are encouraged to bring a lawn chair, bring a friend, and plan to come early to eat lunch in one of several restaurants or visit our shops and museums.
